Overview of CH prospects: two goals in two games for Lane Hutson

While the rebuilding of the Montreal Canadiens continues apace, as evidenced by yesterday’s win over the mighty Boston Bruins, the other prospects not yet with the club continue to perform.

Here, then, are the notable performances of the CH’s prospects this weekend.

Lane Hutson – Left-handed defenseman – age 19

Of course we’re going to talk about Hutson, because once again, he was excellent this weekend.

The CH prospect, who needs no introduction, scored two goals in two games this weekend, bringing his goal total this season to eight in nine games.

That gives him 11 points (eight goals and three assists) in nine games.

It’s simply impressive for a defenseman to be scoring goals at this rate.

Here’s his goal from yesterday, scored on the power play in Boston University’s 6-1 win over the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

And here’s his Friday goal on a superb pass from another CH prospect, Luke Tuch, in a 3-2 win over the same university.

These are really nice goals by Hutson, especially yesterday’s on the power play.

Hutson moved quickly and dangerously at the top of the slot before firing a wrist shot.

In short, a natural scorer.

Only three players (three forwards, by the way) under the age of 20 have more goals than Hutson this season.

That’s impressive.

We can’t wait to see him in Montreal.

Luke Tuch – Left wing – 21 years old

Here’s another CH prospect at BU (Boston University) who’s off to a great start this season.

After much disappointment with his production in his last two seasons, Tuch finally seems to have come into his own in his final year in the NCAA.

The CH prospect, who was seen as a solid prospect at the time of his selection, quickly fell into oblivion due to injuries and poor production.

This season, however, he is rising from the ashes and showing that he still has great potential.

In two games this weekend (the same two as Hutson), Tuch had four assists (two in each game).

One of those assists led to Jack Hughes, son of CH general manager Kent Hughes, scoring his first goal in his new colors. Hughes now has three points in eight games.

This brings his point total to 12 (four goals and eight assists) in 10 games.

It’s a very encouraging start to the season for Tuch.

He has already surpassed his point total for the 2021-2022 season (10 points in 26 games), and is now just eight points shy of his total from last season (20 points in 40 games).

In short, it’s good to see Tuch performing like this, as he represents a style of player the CH may need in the future.

Let’s see how his transition to the pros plays out at the end of the season, should the CH offer him a contract.
