Owen Beck and the Petes are OHL champions

The Peterborough Petes are OHL champions. They beat the London Knights in six games, winning the last one, Sunday night, 2-1.

Canadian prospect Owen Beck played an important role in the Petes’ championship win. He scored twice in a 6-5 overtime win in Game 3 to give Peterborough the series lead. He finished his playoff career with 16 points in 22 games.

He did not play in the final game of the series, however, as he was suspended for a leg-crunch in Game Five.

Avery Hayes opened the scoring in the second period with a backhand shot that surprisingly found its way into the back of the net.

The Knights’ Max McCue gave his team hope by scoring the equalizer a little later.

Forward Tucker Robinson left his mark on the game, picking up a point on each of the Petes’ two goals. He closed the books with a perfect redirection.

The Petes didn’t look back after that goal, despite a lot of late pressure from London.

They will now face the Kamloops Blazers, Seattle Thunderbirds, Remparts and Patrick Roy in the Memorial Cup. The tournament will take place at the Blazers’ home in Kamloops.
