NHL reduces Owen Beck’s suspension… to the Memorial Cup

In match #5 of the OHL final between Peterborough and London, Owen Beck was ejected from the game for a dangerous leg-crunch on the Knights' Jackson Edward.

The OHL then handed him a two-game suspension, meaning he would miss the rest of the final.

After seeing his club take top honors in Game 6, one might have expected Beck to have to serve the second game of his suspension at the Memorial Cup… But not so fast.

The National Hockey League, through its Security Department, decided otherwise.

The NHL… In junior field hockey. You read that correctly.

Since the suspensions for the three leagues (OHL, WHL, QMJHL) are not distributed by the same entity, the CHL needs a neutral organization to review any incidents that have taken place prior to the tournament.

George Parros and his team reviewed Owen Beck's suspension, and decided to reduce it by one game.

Owen Beck will therefore be eligible to play in his team's first game of the Memorial Cup, against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday.

He'll face a team loaded with NHL prospects, including Brad Lambert, Kevin Korchinski, Dylan Guenther, Luke Prokop and Thomas Milic.
