Hawks could be interested in players like Mitch Marner or William Nylander this summer

On June 28, the Blackhawks will draft future NHL star Connor Bedard. That’s right, even though they’re currently preventing their fans from buying the player’s jerseys.

Several days ago, I asked myself the following question: how productive will Bedard be in Chicago’s mediocre line-up?

Because right now, there aren’t many people there. Tsey when Tyler Johnson, Colin Blackwell and Jason Dickinson are your four highest-paid forwards… And on defense, aside from Seth Jones, it’s not much better.

All of which is to say that Chicago has a lot of money on the table, and it makes you wonder if they’ll break out the checkbook this summer. With the choices the team has, you might even wonder if a hostile bid or even a big trade to speed up the rebuild is in the cards.

Is picking up a guy like Mitchell Marner or William Nylander a possibility?

I love Mitch Marner, he’s one of the best players in the NHL, without a doubt. However, he would cost the Hawks the moon, and it’s safe to say that the Leafs would demand AT LEAST a first-round pick in 2024 for the services of their forward. And we all know that the Hawks’ first pick next year is worth a fortune.

After another early elimination from the playoffs, you have to wonder if Brad Treliving, Toronto’s new GM, will budge. We know that Brendan Shanahan wants to keep his Core Four, but… a change of scenery may be the solution in the Queen City.

Getting back to the Blackhawks, acquiring guys like Marner and Nylander would speed up the rebuild, but they won’t be competitive for a few more years. More trades and signings will be in order, and I don’t think that’s exactly Kyle Davidson’s plan.
