Carter Hart in Montreal: we can already forget about the project

Carter Hart’s days in Philadelphia are numbered.

The organization is looking for a complete rebuild, and Daniel Brière seems keen to trade his young goaltender.

The idea of him landing in Montreal was raised because, in reality, Carter Hart and the Habs… These are two names that have been linked in the same sentence before.

But it seems that this project has already been shelved, as The Athletic reports that the Habs will not be exploring this avenue.

You know as well as I do what that means.

Kent Hughes doesn’t seem to be ready to add another goaltender to his roster, at least not until he’s taken the time to examine Samuel Montembeault in depth.

Monty is expected to start next season as number one goalie, and I get the impression that Kent Hughes and his group want to see what he’s capable of before making such a decision.

After all, the Quebec goaltender’s development has gone wonderfully well since he joined the organization, and I sincerely believe that management really wants to give him a real chance to shine.

Samuel was good last season, and he was excellent at the World Championships, guiding Canada to a gold medal. His recent performances have not gone unnoticed…

And that’s just fine.

Kent Hughes was particularly clear when talking about the Quebecer. Remember: the CH GM had said out loud that Montembeault was “not going anywhere”, and this is a nice vote of confidence for the man who was called up for the ballot at the very beginning of October 2021.

His progress has been admirably meteoric… And here again, I really think that management sees a lot in him.

But, if it doesn’t work out next year and Monty doesn’t live up to expectations… Maybe the discussion will be different in due course.

Until then, though, we have to give the rider a chance.
