Winnipeg Jets core to crumble in coming weeks

Things aren’t looking good in Winnipeg. Several core players want to leave the Jets. We’re talking about Pierre-Luc Dubois, Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck.

The news that Pierre-Luc Dubois wants to leave the Jets doesn’t come out of nowhere, and he’s the one most likely to leave. His contract expires this summer, and he certainly won’t want to extend it.

He becomes a compensated free agent, but if he doesn’t want to play with the Jets, they’re going to have to trade him. If the Jets trade him, they can get something big in return for a player who wants nothing to do with the team.

Dubois has 63 points in 73 games this season. That’s a very good total, especially for a 24-year-old.

However, the Jets will have to act quickly in the case of Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck. Both players have contracts expiring at the end of next season and will be uncompensated free agents.

We recently learned that Connor Hellebuyck really doesn’t want to come back to Winnipeg.

As for Scheifele, we’ve suspected as much for a while, especially since rumors of a deal involving him have been flying everywhere in recent weeks. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Jets are already listening to offers for Scheifele.

As a result, all three players are expected to leave shortly. All signs point to the core exploding in the coming weeks.

Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has his work cut out for him. His team is in freefall, and he needs to be able to maximize the return for his three players before he loses them to nothing at all.

These are all players who will be in demand all summer, but if Scheifele and Hellebuyck stay for the 2023-24 season, they can be traded as luxury rental players during the campaign.

That said, don’t forget that the Jets still have other good players on their team, such as Nikolaj Ehlers, Josh Morrissey and Kyle Connor. They’re likely to have their work cut out for them when the other three leave the team.

Kevin Cheveldayoff refuses to talk about a rebuild, but we have to be realistic. If he doesn’t manage to get a good return against Dubois, Scheifele or Hellebuyck, it’s going to be a rebuild in Winnipeg.

– Will Kent Hughes hit a home run with the Panthers’ pick?

– J’adore.

– It’s pitiful.
