Rumour Corner: Alex DeBrincat submits team list
The Senators are preparing to trade Alex DeBrincat.

Where, you ask? It looks like we may have the answer to that question sooner rather than later.

The diminutive forward isn’t interested in staying in Ottawa for the long term, and is one of the most interesting candidates on the trade market right now. DeBrincat has offered a list of teams he’d like to be traded to…

And we’re talking about the Stars, Golden Knights, Panthers, Predators and Red Wings.

A list that remains quite interesting overall.

I really see the “fit” in Dallas. The Stars could boast two of the NHL’s best mavericks in DeBrincat and Jason Robertson.

And both players, who are of American descent, still have their best years ahead of them.

To my mind, this would make an interesting one-two punch for the coming seasons. Add to this the fact that the Stars have an excellent goalkeeper (Jake Oettinger) and some excellent young defensemen…

I think the addition of a guy like DeBrincat could allow the team to be quite competitive in the West for several more seasons. It’s a scenario I’d like to see, quite honestly.

Noah Hanifin… in Buffalo?

We’re talking about DeBrincat, but Noah Hanifin could be just as interesting for various NHL teams.

After all, Hanifin is only 26 years old and, since his arrival in Calgary, he’s shown that he’s one of the right players for his position. The fact that there is interest in his services from all corners of the league is not at all surprising…

And that’s all it took for Jeff Marek to link his name with that of the Sabres, as the Buffalo outfit was “actively” looking to add a quality defenseman to its roster.

Again, the fit is good. The Sabres are young and likely to be dangerous in the near future.

At his age, Hanifin fits the team’s window of opportunity and could strengthen the left side of the defense, which is already well-endowed with Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power.

If it comes to fruition, just like the Stars…

The Sabres will be interesting to watch over the next few years.

Several interesting goalies will be available this summer

Adin Hill. Laurent Brossoit. James Reimer. Martin Jones. Thomas Greiss. Frederik Andersen. Anti Raanta. Tristan Jarry. Joonas Korpisalo. Alex Nedeljkovic. Jonathan Quick. Cam Talbot. Semyon Varlamov. Jaroslav Halak.

These are the names of goaltenders who will be available on the unrestricted free agent market this summer. We may not be talking about star goaltenders in the National League…

But we are talking about goalies who still have the potential to help a Bettman Circuit team.

Could any of the above-mentioned goalies be of interest to the Habs? It’s a question worth asking.

Barring a surprise, Samuel Montembeault and Jake Allen should start the year with the big club. We know that the Quebecer isn’t going anywhere, and it would be a bit surprising to see Allen traded this summer.

If he is, though…

Kent Hughes could turn to the free agent market to back up Samuel Montembeault. And he’s got options.
