Rumor: Capitals would like to send Tom Wilson to Ottawa
Every NHL team would love to have Tom Wilson in their line-up.

It makes sense, after all. Wilson is one of the few players in the NHL capable of scoring goals and playing a very physical game. His ultimate goal is to upset the opposition…

And when he’s in form, he does it wonderfully.

That’s part of the reason why I couldn’t understand why Dan Rosen, a journalist who covers the Capitals, opened the door to a trade this summer. Clearly, Rosen was right, because right now, the Caps are considering trading the 6-foot-4 colossus.

Former NHLer Jason York discussed the matter on the “Coming In Hot” podcast, and from what he hears, Brian MacLellan (GM in Washington) is making eyes at the Senators for a deal.

His comments:

Tom Wilson in Ottawa?

Take a minute to think about how violent that would be. After all, the Sens already have Brady Tkachuk, who has a style not unlike Wilson’s…

And if the Sens are able to go after the power forward, the team’s top-6 would become dangerous.

Tkachuk on the first line, Wilson on the second… Let’s just say it could scare some teams that don’t necessarily have big players. #Habs

That said, I simply don’t understand why the Caps would want to part with Tom Wilson. The team, which is looking to be competitive until the end of Alex Ovechkin’s career, would let go of the heart and soul of the team?

The return in the trade would have to be monstrous for the Capitals to accept… And they’d have to get their hands on players who can help the team right away in order to come to a transaction, again from the perspective that they don’t want to rebuild just yet.

It just doesn’t make sense to me… But hey.

Where it might make sense is when you look at the main player’s contract. He’s got just one more season to go before he reaches full autonomy, and maybe deep down, the Caps are afraid of losing him for nothing.

Being Brian MacLellan, on the other hand, I’d do anything to keep the player’s services. Because, in reality…

There aren’t many Tom Wilsons in the NHL.

In gusto

– Interesting candidates.

– Another player who’d love to feed Cole Caufield.

– Minor deal between Bruins and Devils.

– I’ll go with Beniers.
