Pierre-Luc Dubois would prefer Los Angeles to Montreal

In all sincerity, I think we’re all anxious to see Pierre-Luc Dubois’ case come to a conclusion one way or another.

After all, we’ve been talking for months and months about the possibility of him ending up in Montreal.

That’s because his agent has said in the past that the Quebecer really, really wants to play for the Habs… And now the talk is different.

In fact, Darren Dreger tweeted in the last few minutes that the CH had tried to rekindle talks with the Jets, but to no avail. As we know, Winnipeg wants players who can help the team right away, and the Habs don’t have what it takes to make a deal.

The Kings are currently the front-runners to acquire his services, and it looks like it’s a two-way street. Right now, PLD’s preferred destination isn’t Montreal…

It’s Los Angeles.

Indications are the Montreal Canadiens have tried to get back into the mix for Pierre-Luc Dubois, but haven’t been able to gain traction. Montreal has “future” assets, but Wpg needs NHL ready players. LA has that and it appears PLD prefers the LA option. Developing story.

Discussions are currently well underway between the Kings and the Jets.

After all, Rob Blake (GM in LA) has what it takes to dance with Kevin Cheveldayoff, and unlike the CH, he’s easier to negotiate with.

When’s the official deal? It could happen soon.

At least, that’s what I gather from Pierre LeBrun’s tweet that conversations between the two teams should continue today.

Whether we like it or not, the Dubois situation will continue to cause a stir until the final outcome. That’s to be expected, since he’s probably the best player available right now for the various NHL teams.

But it’s taking on even greater proportions in Montreal, because he’s a Quebecer and because he wanted to play in Montreal. One wonders how legitimate this is, though…

Because it seems to be the same story over and over again. Daniel Brière, Vincent Lecavalier, and now Pierre-Luc Dubois… It’s always the same thing.

Guys say they want to play in Montreal to drum up interest from other teams… And in the end, they decide to go elsewhere.

It hasn’t happened yet, as far as PLD is concerned. But I have a feeling that those who absolutely wanted to see him come to town will be disappointed, once again.

Extension

It’s easy to see why Los Angeles is an attractive destination.

Dubois is entering his prime and would have the opportunity to challenge for a Stanley Cup in the near future, which is not the case in Montreal. If his desire is to lift the trophy soon, it makes sense.

But, basically…

If his dream really was to play in Montreal, as we’ve heard so much about in recent months, we probably wouldn’t even be talking about the Kings today.
