Rumor mill: Rangers may lure Jonathan Quick

Jonathan Quick finished last season in Vegas.

He was acquired from the Kings at the final deadline to help out in front of the net, and ended up playing a total of ten games with the Golden Knights.

The experienced veteran with two Stanley Cup rings will be out of contract on July 1. The chances of him returning to Vegas are slim, given the team’s limited payroll…

And Quick should test the free agent market, which opens in three days’ time on Saturday.

Obviously, there will be interest in his services because, as I said earlier, Quick has a great track record. He’s no longer the dominant goalie he once was, we agree…

But he can still help a team looking for a second goalie for next season.

The Rangers are currently rumoured to be his next potential destination. He would join Igor Shesterkin in the Big Apple, and with the Rangers still looking to move up to the next level, it makes sense to me.

Goalie market remains interesting. Chicago’s been looking to add a goaltender – they spoke with LA about Petersen before he was dealt to Philly. Rangers also looking for a vet backup and that could be a landing spot for Jonathan Quick come July 1.

Milan Lucic back in Boston?

The idea was floated recently, and it’s starting to make some noise in Boston.

Milan Lucic could well sign a contract with the Bruins to finish his NHL career where he started it.

The veteran certainly won’t be earning $6 million a season like he has for the past seven years in Edmonton and Calgary, and I expect he’ll accept a minimal contract for the chance to return to his old loves.

Don Sweeney, on the other hand, will have a choice to make, given that he has only six forwards signed for next season and that he has around $11 million to maneuver this summer, barring another major transaction.

In a recent article, Elliotte Friedman reports that the Bruins’ agreement with Lucic is not yet official, as the player is still technically tied to the Flames…

But it looks like it’s about to happen.

Max Domi gives an indication of his future

Max Domi had a great season.

His 56 points in 80 games with the Hawks and Stars make him an interesting candidate on July 1, when the free-agent market opens.

We know the Stars liked him a lot, and we know they wanted to at least try to bring him back next year. Maybe they will…

But the former CH player still wants to test the market to see what’s available to him. If he doesn’t sign a new contract in Dallas, a little bird tells me he’ll go back to Chicago…

Not least because he loves Luke Richardson and also because of Connor Bedard.

Sounds like both Max Domi and Luke Glendening won’t follow Evgenii Dadonov’s lead and sign extensions with the #TexasHockey – they’ll hit the open market July 1 as UFAs.

It feels like the end for Zach Parise

Zach Parise doesn’t have the same offensive flair he used to. That’s to be expected, after all, since the veteran will celebrate his 39th birthday in July.

Quite frankly, I had no idea he was so “old”. Come to think of it, though…

It seems like forever since he played in the National League.

Parise, who spent the last two seasons in New York with the Islanders, is out of contract for next season. He has yet to make an official decision…

But at the moment, it seems, he’s strongly considering hanging up his skates. A well-deserved retirement, after a career of 1,224 games (and 879 points) in the NHL.

Penguins look to keep first-round pick

Pittsburgh’s been on a roll lately.

As recently as yesterday, Kyle Dubas was actively trying to trade Jeff Petry in order to send him elsewhere, and this afternoon, the team acquired Reilly Smith from the Golden Knights in exchange for a third-round pick.

The question for Pittburgh, however…

What is Kyle Dubas’ plan, with the first round of the draft just hours away?

It seems simple. The Penguins intend to keep their first-round pick, which is 14th. They’ll have the opportunity to get their hands on an interesting prospect, something Pittsburgh currently lacks.

So far, sounds like Penguins still plan to keep first-round pick. But I’ve heard they’ve talked with multiple teams – Rangers, Ducks, Jets, and Flames – recently about potential trades.
