As you know, in 2018, a story of gang rape involving eight Junior Team Canada players created a scandal. In effect, a veritable Pandora’s box was opened on the country’s field hockey federation.
An investigation was launched, and now the findings are about to be made public. And as you can imagine, it’s going to splash some people.
As reported in the Journal de Montréal, teams fully expect to see suspensions handed out to certain players, which may explain certain decisions.
I believe we are approaching a conclusion and an announcement in relation to the investigation into the Canadian team that competed at the 2018 World Junior Championship. – Frank Seravalli
You know as well as I do that without consequences, NHL teams wouldn’t move systematically. But here, with the threat of a roster derailed by the results of the investigation, it’s a game-changer.
That’s why things are moving right now. Teams don’t want to get caught replacing a player at the drop of a hat.
At the moment, Maxime Comtois and Cal Foote are two young players from that edition who didn’t receive a qualifying offer and are now free as a bird.
Is this a coincidence? I wouldn’t know.
Jonah Gadjovich signed an AHL-only contract. You’d expect him to sign at least a two-part contract, but obviously that didn’t happen.
Alex Formenton did not play in the NHL last year. He’s not currently under contract either.
Dorion says he has no update that will provide clarity on the Hockey Canada scandal or Alex Formenton’s future. Says the NHL has directed teams not to talk about it until the investigation is over.

What do you think is driving the exodus from smaller Canadian markets?
