Signing of K’Andre Miller: there are still some interesting players on the RFA market

The Rangers settled an important matter this afternoon.

The organization agreed on the terms of a new contract with K’Andre Miller. The defenseman was a restricted free agent this summer.

The two-year deal will pay him $3.872 million per season. The team made the announcement itself via a Twitter post:

Talk about a nice contract for the Rangers. Miller has shown a particularly interesting progression over the past two years and the 6’5, 215-pound defenseman, who collected 43 points in 79 games last season, is establishing himself as one of the good players at his position in the National League.

I imagine he would have liked to sign a deal that would have given him more stability, but hey. He can console himself with the fact that in two years, if all goes well and he continues to develop as we’re seeing right now, chances are he’ll be in a position to break the bank.

It’s worth noting that at the end of his two-year contract, he’ll once again find himself an RFA.

Even with Miller signed, there are still some interesting names on the restricted free agent market.

The Ducks have two big deals on the table right now. Troy Terry and Trevor Zegras, the club’s top two scorers over the past two seasons, are still without contracts for the upcoming campaign…

But I don’t think Anaheim fans have anything to worry about. The Ducks have $30 million to maneuver between now and the end of the summer, and I can’t imagine a world where Zegras and Terry start the 2023-2024 season without a contract.

What will the Rangers do with Alexis Lafrenière?

It’s a question worth asking. After signing Miller, the Blue Shirts have about $2.4 M to sign Laffy to a new pact… And like Miller, we expect to see him sign a bridge contract.

Could any team complicate Chris Drury’s task by making a hostile offer to the Quebecer, given that the Rangers are starting to be a little tight on payroll?

I expect to see the other players named in Marc-Olivier Beaudoin’s tweet come to an agreement with their respective teams shortly.

The Kraken (Dunn), the Oilers (Bouchard), the Flyers (Frost), the Jets (Vilardi), the Coyotes (Maccelli) and the Sens (Pinto) have the money to come to terms with their respective players, and barring a huge surprise, they should all start the season with their “current line-ups”.

All the same, it’ll be interesting to watch over the coming weeks.
