Alexis Joseph: At 14, he’ll be playing in the M18AAA next season

In the next few years, we’re likely to hear the name Alexis Joseph a lot. But why?

Because he could well be the next Quebec superstar to make his name in the world of professional field hockey.

It’s simple. Alexis Joseph racked up 65 points (43 goals, 22 assists) in 30 games last season with the Lanaudière Pionniers in the M15AAA Élite.

He “achieved the feat” at just 13 years of age… And he was so good that he’ll be making the jump straight to the M18AAA league for next season.

He will be wearing the colors of the Phénix du Collège Esther-Blondin.

Alexis Joseph celebrated his 14th birthday on June 16. Understandably, he’s well ahead of his group:

The story is absolutely worth telling.

After all, if the young man has a great season… Chances are he’ll get the exceptional status that would allow him to play in the QMJHL at the age of 15.

Joe Veleno is the only player in the history of the Quebec junior circuit to have obtained this privilege. He was selected by the Saint John Sea Dogs with the very first pick of the 2015 auction.

It’s always cool to see little guys from our region stand out in this way. Let’s just say that the attention of the entire M18AAA league will be riveted on the young Phoenix player, and it’s certain that he’ll start the season as a target for his opponents.

How he responds to this adversity will give us a better idea of the kind of player he is. He’s been described as a guy who can do it all on the ice, and I’m curious to see whether the success he achieved last year will carry over to the M18AAA, when the others are older.

That said, he should do well physically in view of the fact that he’s 6’2″ and weighs (already) 174 lbs. He’s already pretty big, even at his age.

His performance will be something to watch over the coming months, to say the least.
