Yesterday, pitcher Ryan Weathers left the game between the Blue Jays and the Yankees. We were wondering what that meant.
Ultimately, the Yankees announced that the pitcher would be sidelined for two to four weeks.
After that, he'll inevitably need a little more time to make his return.
Aaron Boone said there's a “good chance” he'll return this season, but that doesn't mean it will happen. His season is inevitably compromised.
Ryan Weathers will not throw for 2–4 weeks. Aaron Boone said “there's a great chance” that Weathers will return this year “in some capacity,” which suggests a bullpen role.

We can all agree that if the pitcher were to return, his chances of making the rotation are slim for two reasons.
First, the workload would be too heavy for a guy coming back from an injury. In the bullpen, it would just make more sense for him and the team.
Second? If all goes well (which isn't guaranteed), the Bombers will have several pitchers ahead of him in the lineup for the postseason rotation and the end of the season.
Cam Schlittler, Gerrit Cole, Max Fried (currently injured but expected to return soon), and Carlos Rodon are the team's top four starters.
In the playoffs, it'll be their turn.
Then there's Will Warren (whom the club has never really managed to move to the bullpen due to injuries to other pitchers)—he's there too. He can pitch more innings than Weathers.
Things can change quickly, of course, but right now, for all the reasons stated, seeing Weathers return to the bullpen (if he returns) just makes sense.
But first and foremost, he'll need to get healthy.
