Only two teams did not play yesterday, as 15 games were on the schedule in the National Hockey League.

So there was plenty of action across the NHL, with several interesting highlights.

Here's a rundown of the top highlights to help you make sense of all the day's action.

1. The Kings' Twitter account taunts the Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs visited the Los Angeles Kings last night, and we were treated to a wild, high-scoring game.

Indeed, it wasn't a goaltending duel, as the Kings won 7-6 in overtime.

However, what really caught everyone's attention in this game was the Kings' post about their victory, in which they took a serious jab at the Maple Leafs.

With a score of 6-7, they wrote that if you were looking for the final score of this game, you just had to Google the year of the Leafs' last Stanley Cup win.

That's still a pretty bold statement, especially coming from a team that shouldn't be this confident at all, considering they have only 19 regulation-time wins in 76 games.

Only the Canucks are doing worse with 15.

This dismal Kings statistic is due to the fact that the team is constantly going into overtime—so much so that the Kings have set a historic record with 31 games decided in overtime in a single season.

In short, the Kings really don't deserve to make the playoffs, but they're still in the running.

2. Two legendary performances by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin

The Pittsburgh Penguins went on a scoring spree yesterday against the Florida Panthers, winning 9-4.

And among those nine goals, it goes without saying that the two Penguins legends, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, stood out.

In fact, both players racked up multiple points, but more importantly, they each reached a legendary milestone on the same goal.

Malkin reached the 1,400-career-point milestone, while Crosby moved up to seventh place in NHL history among the league's all-time leading scorers.

Crosby surpassed Steve Yzerman with his 1,756th point.

3. The playoff race in the East is heating up

It was a big day yesterday for the playoff race, as nearly all the teams involved were in action.

Here's the recap:

  • The Ottawa Senators lost 4-1 to the Minnesota Wild.
  • The Detroit Red Wings lost 4-1 to the New York Rangers.
  • The Boston Bruins lost 3-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
  • The Washington Capitals beat the Buffalo Sabres 6-2.
  • The New York Islanders lost 4-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes.
  • The Columbus Blue Jackets lost 2-1 to the Winnipeg Jets.

In the standings, this sets up a six-team race for two playoff spots, with only two points separating them all.

4. A First NHL Goal for Sacha Boisvert

Young Quebec native Sacha Boisvert recently joined the Chicago Blackhawks from the NCAA, and last night he scored his first NHL goal.

It was his fifth career game, as the Hawks defeated the Seattle Kraken 4-2.

5. Gabe Perreault's Hat Trick

In the Rangers' 4-1 victory that dealt a major blow to the Red Wings, another Quebec native stood out as Gabe Perreault scored his first career hat trick.

He has now reached the 10-goal mark this season.
