Unfortunately, Cole Caufield failed to reach the 50-goal mark last night in the Montreal Canadiens' 4-3 shootout victory over the New Jersey Devils.
The Habs' #13 still managed two assists, and we can take comfort in the fact that Caufield will score his famous 50th goal of the season in Montreal, at the Bell Centre, in front of a raucous crowd.
And in the end, even without Caufield's 50th goal last night, an important milestone was reached by a CH player.
I'm referring to Ivan Demidov, who scored his 17th goal of the season last night, thereby reaching the 60-point mark.

It's quite an achievement for a rookie to score 60 or more points in his first season in the National Hockey League, and it shows just how exceptional a player Demidov is.
And what's even more impressive about Demidov's 60 points is that he's already the fifth Canadiens player this season to reach that milestone.
In fact, so far in the 2025-2026 season, the Habs have five players with 60 or more points, marking a first in the entire NHL this year.
The Canadiens become the first team this season with 5 players with 60 or more points

No other team in the entire NHL currently has five players with 60 or more points.
The team closest to reaching this milestone is the Pittsburgh Penguins, with Evgeni Malkin (57 points) poised to join Crosby, Karlsson, Rust, and Mantha soon.
The Tampa Bay Lightning aren't too far behind either, with four (Kucherov, Guentzel, Hagel, Raddysh) and Anthony Cirelli, who has 52 points.
In short, even though Martin St-Louis's squad has been fortunate to avoid injuries, this is quite an achievement, especially considering that all five players are 26 or younger—something that hasn't happened for the Habs since the 1974–1975 season.
5 players with 60 points, all aged 26 and under (Hockey Club history)
2025-26: Suzuki (26), Caufield (25), Hutson (22), Slafkovsky (22), and Demidov (20)
1974-75: Lafleur (23), Lambert (24), Lapointe (26), Robinson (23), and Shutt (22)

And when you look at the names, there's really a lot to be excited about for the future of the current Habs lineup.
Right now, they're all scoring 60 points or more, but it's easy to imagine each of these players consistently averaging a point per game.
They all have the potential to do so, and the Habs could already have three of them this year if Hutson finishes the season with 82 points or more.
The Canadiens' future is therefore in very good hands, and that's not even counting Michael Hage and Alexander Zharovsky, two Habs prospects who clearly have the potential to put up 60-point-plus seasons.
In a Nutshell
– Interesting.
Somewhat random stat of the day, but couldn't help but notice how often Alex Newhook is winning faceoffs.
Since returning from a broken ankle on Feb. 26, he's at 49.6%.
Over this eight-game winning streak, he's at 59.3%!
He won just 42.8% of them last season, so that's a big improvement.— Eric Engels (@EricEngels) April 5, 2026
– That's completely crazy.
It really is amazing how goals are up and save percentages are down in today's NHL.
The Wild have the 4th-best goals-against average in the NHL at 2.82 and the highest save percentage in the league at .907.
Minnesota and Colorado are the ONLY NHL teams with save percentages over…

– These Flyers are incredible.
As most everyone knows by now, if the Flyers get a point today vs. Boston, they're back in playoff position. They haven't been there in nearly 3 months—since Jan. 12, in the middle of those ugly back-to-back home losses to the Lightning.

– A name to watch.
