What's going on at the start of the season?
After seeing Carlos Narvaez (Red Sox) pulled from his team's lineup due to… something, now Carter Jansen (Royals) has also fallen victim to the same fate.
In his case, however, we know what happened: he overslept and arrived late at the stadium. He was supposed to be the catcher, but ended up seeing Salvador Perez—who was supposed to be the DH—behind the plate yesterday.
He entered the game toward the end of the contest, when a pinch runner came in to replace Perez.
Obviously, this caused quite a stir in Kansas City. And Vinnie Pasquantino, after the game (a 5-1 loss to the Twins), spoke to the media to defend his young teammate.
He did so respectfully. Honestly, I think the tone he used was perfect.
“You've got a 36-year-old catcher who's preparing to DH, and then his world gets a little shaken up… We're glad Carter's okay. That was the initial thought when trying to get in touch with his parents.” — Vinnie Pasquantino after Royals rookie Carter Jansen overslept

Pasquantino took the time to explain that Perez (who was preparing to be the DH) had little time to prepare to be the catcher—which is no small feat, considering he's a big guy and getting on in years.
He also said the guys were worried about Jansen since they were in the dark: the catcher wasn't giving any updates. But after that, Pasquantino made it clear to him that this kind of thing won't fly in the majors.
Jansen seemed to blame himself. After the game, he spoke with the media and didn't come across as a young player who wasn't taking the situation seriously. So he's learned his lesson.
It seems that seeing the Royals not hide the situation leads me to believe that the chances of this becoming a distraction are lower than the situation in Boston. But we'll see…

- Mets: Nothing is happening offensively.
A big part of David Stearns' winter strategy was creating a Mets roster that wouldn't carry last year's PTSD into the 2026 season.
But even the new faces are still wearing #Mets uniforms, and they're showing it's not so easy to shed last season's stigma. https://t.co/GzMTE25UCA

- Cam Schlittler enjoys being with the Yankees.
“Everyone hates the Yankees. If I were on another team, doing what I'm doing and talking the way I'm talking, no one would really care. Everyone's against us. And that's something I enjoy.” — Cam Schlittler https://t.co/SpJeipwMUI
