The Blue Jays had a rough day.
The team lost to the Chicago White Sox in the worst possible way this afternoon. In the 10th inning, after scoring a run, the team endured a disastrous five-minute stretch that began with an injury to Alejandro Kirk.
I don't buy that the last two games – as rough as they've been – tell us much about the trajectory of the 2026 Blue Jays' season.

As you can see, it's his left wrist that's affected. He asked to leave the game and will undergo tests to determine the severity of his wrist injury.
But let's just say it doesn't look good. Expect to see catcher Brandon Valenzuela, acquired in a trade for Will Wagner last year, get called up sooner rather than later. He had an excellent spring training and is off to a strong start in Buffalo.
And just like that, the Blue Jays let the game against Chicago slip away. Jeff Hoffman was on the mound in a save situation, but he's probably not the number one culprit for the loss.
Tyler Heineman, in particular, made a bad play that opened the door for the White Sox when he entered the game… and the offense wasn't great early on. But right now, the loss is secondary, since losing Kirk for the long term would really hurt the Blue Jays.

After the game, it's also worth noting that the Blue Jays announced they had signed a former teammate of Max Scherzer to a one-year, $1 million contract: good old Patrick Corbin.
With Cody Ponce added to the injured list, the team was starting to run low on depth in the rotation. And for the past few hours, rumors of a signing had been circulating around town for a depth starter.

Obviously, Corbin is no longer the dominant player he was in 2019, when he helped the Nationals win the World Series. But the man who played for Texas in 2025 is still durable and can eat innings.
That's what the club needs, to a certain extent.
For now, Corbin will head to Dunedin to pitch in the minors to get back into the swing of things. But even though he didn't have spring training, he's been working out on his own recently and is reportedly capable of throwing 80 pitches.
It would seem, then, that he's not far from being ready to help the Blue Jays in a rotation decimated by injuries.
