The Blue Jays currently have four starting pitchers on the injured list: Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, Shane Bieber, and Cody Ponce, who was injured in his first start of the season.

So for now, the team is operating with four starters.

The original plan was to have a guy like Lazaro Estrada start on Sunday, in the final game of the series against the White Sox. But ultimately, it's tomorrow that there will be uncertainty on the mound, and a guy like Estrada is expected to eat innings.

Why? Because Eric Lauer is coming down with a virus (that's going around the locker room) and his start has been pushed back from Saturday to Sunday. Given the current situation, having a bullpen day on Saturday or Sunday doesn't make much difference… and it might even give the relievers a rest for Monday.

Note that the team's other three starters (Max Scherzer, Kevin Gausman, and Dylan Cease) are expected to pitch Monday through Wednesday, in that order, during the series against the Dodgers.

Still with the Blue Jays, it's worth noting that Yesavage (the injured player closest to a return to action) will pitch tonight in the minors. He's expected to throw three innings in Dunedin.

So this is good news for the pitcher and for the Blue Jays. In a few weeks, if all goes well and he doesn't suffer a setback, he could be back in the Majors.
