When Phillip Danault was acquired by the Canadiens last December, he said he felt as though he had never really left the team.
And that's understandable.
We know that in 2021, he left due to negotiations with the Canadiens. He was beloved by the fans and played an important role on Dominique Ducharme's team.
Soon after he returned, memories came flooding back. Among them was the famous pizza from 2021, after the series against the Golden Knights.
We remember that on June 24, 2021, after helping the Habs qualify for the Stanley Cup Final, he ate a slice of pizza (after bringing one to Cole Caufield) while wishing Quebecers a happy Saint-Jean.
At the time, we thought that if the Quebec native managed to stay in Montreal, a deal with a pizza company would inevitably follow. His departure for L.A. naturally changed the game.
But his return to the city last December changed the game. And as he so aptly put it, it seems nothing has changed.
Normandin announced on social media that Danault is now a brand ambassador. The announcement was made via an ad that's hilariously reminiscent of his legendary 2021 press conference.
We see him eating pizza… and saying that the highlight of his evening is Normandin pizza.
Being a Quebecer playing in Montreal isn't always easy. That said, there are sometimes perks—as we can clearly see in today's news.
Star players who aren't necessarily from Quebec also enjoy these perks. Lane Hutson and Ivan Demidov are yet another example of this.
We can all agree that even after five years, no one thinks it's too late to see Danault pull off a stunt like this. He's back in town, the playoffs are approaching… and no one has forgotten 2021.
It's all quite heartwarming.

Elliotte Friedman: Tom Fitzgerald was the first captain of the Predators; it seems to me that if he wouldn't be the guy in New Jersey anymore, I think that would be the kind of guy [they] would at least want to interview – Real Kyper & Bourne (4/1)
