Yesterday, Keith Pelley (a senior executive at MLSE and the Maple Leafs) spoke to members of the media.

Naturally, the topic of a new GM came up. He was asked about the future of the hockey club and what the next few years will look like.

The fact that he doesn't want to start a rebuilding process isn't sitting well with everyone, let's just say.

There was another remark that stood out during Pelley's press conference: when he said he hadn't seen the Canadiens and Sabres' rise in the standings coming.

He also spoke about Michael Hage, who was drafted by the Canadiens but could have become a Maple Leafs prospect if things had gone differently.

And clearly, the Habs didn't like that.

According to what Darren Dreger said on TSN 690 this morning, the Canadiens organization wasn't exactly thrilled to see the Maple Leafs mention the Habs and specifically talk about Michael Hage.

It's worth noting that the same goes for the Sabres: they aren't any happier about the situation.

We agree that, under normal circumstances, an organization shouldn't necessarily talk about other clubs as openly as Keith Pelley did yesterday in front of the media. And at least Pelley didn't criticize the Habs: he showered them with praise.

But since one isn't supposed to talk about other clubs, one might think that the frustration stems from this very issue within Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's organization.

It's also worth noting that the Canadiens haven't made a public statement expressing their dissatisfaction: it was a reporter who said this, based on his sources. But in my opinion, this is the kind of story that shouldn't get out of hand.

In a nutshell

– This isn't an April Fool's joke: the guy scored again.

– Very sad.

– When will a trade happen?

– That feels good.

– Incredible.
