Yesterday, the Canadiens sent a message to Samuel Montembeault by recalling Jacob Fowler and seeing the Rocket, in turn, call up a Lions goalie.

Many people already wanted to see Jakub Dobes play two games in two nights (in two different cities) to avoid using the Quebec native, but the organization went even further by calling up a young player.

And Dobes was even the backup yesterday. The message from management was clear: Monty can't play in this game, which was a four-point game. The gamble paid off, as you know. Not only did the Canadiens win, not only was Fowler excellent… but he also impressed everyone at the end of the game.

The guy even turned into a brick wall at the end of the game, when the Habs needed to protect their lead.

The calm and confidence of a guy with little NHL experience are worth noting right now. Despite the pressure he undoubtedly put on himself for the game, he didn't falter.

So much the better.

In fact, this has reignited certain discussions that existed even before his second recall: should the American be the starting goalie for the CH in the playoffs?

It's too early to ask this question, as the young player needs to find consistency. But it's a legitimate question.

Right now, it's a question that's being asked. Craig Button thinks so… and at BPM Sports, the question is up in the air. These are just two examples among many others.

Jakub Dobes is in the lead, for those who are wondering.

I don't see how Martin St-Louis, under the current circumstances, can answer anything other than Jakub Dobes at this point. But maybe in a month, it will be different.

And before that, we still have to qualify.

Fowler's recall has given even more hope to fans of the Canadiens, a club that could make the playoffs if it continues to play the right way. Yesterday's game (and Tuesday's, for that matter) is a good example.
Even though Cole Caufield was absent, the offense got the job done. Alexandre Texier scored. Juraj Slafkovsky took advantage of a superb play by Ivan Demidov to find the back of the net. And Demidov himself also scored thanks to his ability to get into the scoring zones.

It wasn't easy on all levels (Alexandre Carrier didn't have the game of his career, let's say), but the Habs beat a rival in an important game in 60 minutes.
And they did it in a home-team atmosphere. Obviously, you might say: the game was in Ottawa. https://t.co/jVPUcziTYM pic.twitter.com/kQuHVEK3ve

Note that the Canadiens will enjoy a day off on Thursday. Tomorrow, they will return to training to prepare for the weekend's games.

The Sharks and Ducks will be at the Bell Centre on Saturday and Sunday.

Quick fire

– Will he get at least 82 points this year?

— And it's the young players who are driving the club forward.

— Really?

— One to watch.

— Wow.
