The Nashville Predators are searching for a general manager. Barry Trotz will step down once a new GM has been found. When we heard that a change was coming, Marc Bergevin's name immediately came to mind. Could the former Canadiens executive be a candidate?

After all, he has had a few interviews here and there in the NHL since leaving Montreal…

And apparently, the answer is yes. Jimmy Murphy (RG Media) has revealed that Marc Bergevin's name is currently being bandied about as a potential candidate to become the Preds' next GM. It won't be anytime soon that the Predators will name a GM (the deadline is approaching and Barry Trotz will undoubtedly handle it), but finding a new boss is an important issue there.

According to Murphy, Bergevin would not be at the top of the pyramid as he once was in Montreal. Brendan Shanahan (as president of hockey operations) is also expected to be hired alongside Bergevin. They would potentially form a duo in which the Quebec native would have quite a bit of leeway.

It should be noted that Bergevin has already interviewed for the GM position in Toronto (under Shanahan) and that the two were expected to be hired together last year in Long Island.

Such a duo would bring a lot of experience to the table, we can all agree.

Bergevin has been a partner in Buffalo for several months now. After leaving Montreal, he worked for a few years with the Kings organization. Obviously, this isn't the only scenario on the table for the Predators. However, it's one to keep an eye on since it has been brought up publicly.
