After holding an outdoor practice yesterday morning, the CH was back at its training complex in Brossard for today's session.
And what we noticed was that there were some very, very interesting developments.
First of all, one player was conspicuous by his absence today: Samuel Montembeault did not train with the rest of the group today.
It should be noted that the Canadiens did not provide any details about their goaltender's absence, mentioning only that he was not present today. However, our colleague Maxime Truman was able to learn that Montembeault was absent for personal reasons and that his absence will be very short-lived.
This allowed Marco Marciano to spend a lot of time with Jakub Dobes.
Samuel Montembeault is not at the CH's practice this morning.
I'm told that Montembeault had to take time off for personal reasons. He will be back at his post in the next few hours. https://t.co/wFtu6hMbXk

That said, there was also some good news during the session. First of all, Alex Newhook, who has been out for a few months, was seen skating in a regular jersey this morning.
He has therefore been given the green light to receive contact… and we shouldn't rule out the possibility of seeing him back sooner rather than later.

This is a full practice, with contact.
Will Newhook rejoin the lineup on Thursday against the Islanders?

In addition, another forward made headlines for all the right reasons: Alexandre Texier was back in training after returning from Milan following the 2026 Olympics.
We knew he was injured before the break, so it's a good sign to see him on the ice.
Alexandre Texier is (already) back in training with the Canadiens.
It's 10:27 a.m., practice is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., and Texier is on the ice in Brossard.
Good news! He seems healthy, despite having struggled with minor injuries before the Games.

It should be noted that the three other CH players who took part in the Olympics (Nick Suzuki, Juraj Slafkovský, and Oliver Kapanen) are still in Milan, where they will all be competing for a medal in the next 24 hours.
They are expected to rejoin the team later this week in preparation for the club's next game, scheduled for Thursday night.
In brief
– I like it!
