The trade deadline is fast approaching, with Friday, March 6 less than a month away.
The Montreal Canadiens are obviously the team to watch closely, as Kent Hughes attempts to improve his squad.
The final stretch to the playoffs will not be easy, especially in the Atlantic Division, so some reinforcements would clearly be useful.
Of course, there is no certainty that the Habs will make one or more trades before the deadline, but several rumors and discussions lead us to believe that it could happen.
Indeed, despite Hughes' statement that he will be cautious between now and March 6, renowned insider Pierre LeBrun believes the Habs are confident they can make another move.
Pierre LeBrun: Re Canadiens: They finished so strong [before the break] that now I think that, even though Kent Hughes has said…that they were gonna be prudent at the trade deadline, I think they feel confident that they can make another move now – Basu & Godin (2/9)

This is still big news, and it's particularly reliable considering it comes from LeBrun, who made the claim during his appearance on the “The Basu & Godin Notebook.”
It's therefore quite plausible that the Canadiens are indeed preparing to make one or more trades.
As we know, the Habs' main need is at right wing on the first line rather than center on the second line, so we could expect to see some kind of big trade.
However, Pierre LeBrun believes that Patrik Laine will have to be involved for the numbers to work out.
All this remains to be seen, as nothing is guaranteed, but according to the latest rumors, the CH is confident that it can improve by the trade deadline.
Can we still believe in Jordan Kyrou in Montreal?

— Interesting statistic.
Dean Kukan, who had 5 goals in 153 NHL games with Columbus, scored the first overtime goal of the 2026 men's tournament at #MilanoCortina2026.
Kukan and Drew Doughty are the only defensemen with an OT goal at the Winter Olympics with NHL players. #NHLStats: https://t.co/Qy3gs3o0sS pic.twitter.com/nhR6U5YvZf
