In the last draft, the Habs traded their two first-round picks to the Islanders in the Noah Dobson deal. That meant the club didn't make any moves on the first night.

That said, it made a movevery quickly in the second round, moving up to 34th overall to select Alexander Zharovsky. The young man, who is a good friend of Ivan Demidov, was seen as a highly talented prospect who was going to have opportunities to play significant minutes in the KHL this season.

However, it turned out to be even more impressive than that: Zharovsky began racking up points at a crazy pace. He has been scoring nearly a point per game since the start of the year… and today, he made KHL history.

His assist today was his 37th point since the start of the campaign (in 45 games), setting a new record for the most points by an 18-year-old player in a single season in KHL history.

He surpassed the mark set by Eeli Tolvanen, who had 36 points in 49 games at the same age.

It should be noted that Zharovsky's point total should be taken with a grain of salt, as it isvery rare to see an 18-year-old get such a favorable role to rack up points in the KHL. Zharovsky found himself in this position because his club is in financial trouble and needs to rely on players who don't cost too much.

That said, it doesn't change the fact that his season has been very, very encouraging. His talent is undeniable when you watch him play, and it's not hard to imagine a world in which he'll be able to hold his own in the NHL sooner or later.

Remember that Snake sees him as the habs' best prospect right now.

We should still expect to see Zharovsky play another season in the KHL next year, after which his contract will expire and he will be able to make the jump to America. That will give him time to refine his game and be ready for the 2027-28 season.

And we get the feeling that his club in Russia has no intention of holding him back: when he's ready, Zharovsky will be free to come and play in Quebec.

Overtime

– A return to Carolina for Dougie Hamilton?

– Nothing less.

– Well done.
