The chances of Patrik Laine being traded by the trade deadline (or before) are good.

There is a world in which the habs keep him, but I have a hard time seeing how that wouldn't be too much of a distraction for the rest of the season.#HotPotato

It would be much better to let him go.

Even if there is a scenario where the Canadiens don't look for offensive reinforcements and decide to keep Laine because they don't need to trade him to make room, I refuse to believe that this is the most likely scenario.

Why? Because getting him out of Montreal won't cost that much.

Marco D'Amico, who was a guest on the BPM Sports morning show, said that we shouldn't expect the habs to pay a lot to get Laine out of Montreal if they retain his salary.

That's why he believes that yes, the chances of seeing the Finn traded are good.

In fact, because the market for sellers is so thin, this may give Kent Hughes reason not to pay too much to get Laine out of Montreal.

Many clubs are back in the playoff race and are not going to trade their rental players, which will create a sense of scarcity in the market. This will give the Canadiens leverage.

If I were Kent Hughes, I would tell other teams that Laine will be motivated to prove he can still play and that he will seek to demonstrate, with a few months left on his contract, that he deserves another one.

Let's just say that this story hasn't exactly stopped the gossip.
