Juraj Slafkovsky is happy to be in Milan.

Nick Suzuki has seen him in recent days with a huge smile on his face… and today, the young Canadiens player showed that he has every reason to be happy to be participating in the Olympics.

It's simple: Slaf was dominant in Slovakia's surprise victory over Finland. And it's worth talking about…

Basically, Slaf did everything on the ice. He finished the game with two goals, one assist, four shots on goal, and a +2 rating: he was clearly his team's best player in the game.

He scored a beautiful goal (his first of the tournament, by the way) and his second goal was really nice too. That shot… Wow! :

If Cole Caufield is called “Mr. Saturday Night,” then Slaf can be called “Mr. Olympics.”

Because the fact is, this kid is really, really good when he wears his country's jersey at the Games. He finished the 2022 tournament with seven goals in seven games, helped Slovakia win gold and was named MVP of the tournament… and he was clearly able to continue his momentum today.

But what's great is seeing him dominate like this on the international stage at such an important moment.

We know what he's capable of in Montreal because we're seeing him blossom before our eyes. Fans see how interesting his progress is because he's become one of the Canadiens' truly important players.

But… when he plays like this and dominates games in his own way, it's even more spectacular.

Slaf kept saying that he was looking forward to participating in the Olympics and that he saw himself playing a leadership role within his club. And you know what?

He proved it today when he took the ice and had a simply fantastic game. I know, it's only one game… but still: his performance deserves attention, and I'm sure the Canadiens' management was pleased too.

At the very least, it bodes well for the future. And it gives us reason to believe that we could see him take control of many games in Montreal in the coming years…
