With the official start of the men's hockey tournament at the Olympic Games just a few days away, it's fair to wonder which country will finish on top of the podium in Milan.

After all, there will be some good teams.

Canada, Sweden, Finland, the United States… We can all agree that these four teams have a certain “head start” because they have very talented players on their rosters. But who will win the gold?

Renaud Lavoie weighed in on the question in his daily column on the BPM Sports show. According to the journalist, the podium will look like this:

  1. The United States (gold medal)
  2. Sweden (silver medal)
  3. Canada (bronze medal)

In his opinion, Canada has what it takes offensively to win the tournament.

But… the defense—which is not as talented as in recent years—and the fact that it's pretty thin in front of the net lead him to believe that Canada will “only” win the bronze medal.

If Canada returns home with the bronze medal, it will be a real disappointment for the Canadian side.

After all, it's gold or nothing for Canada. And with players like Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Macklin Celebrini, Sidney Crosby, Cale Makar (and many others)… expectations are certainly high right now.

The good news (for fans) is that several countries have the ingredients to be really dangerous.

At the very least, it should make for a good tournament.

There will be intensity on the ice (which will be smaller, remember) and it will certainly make for some great hockey for fans following the competition.

It's time for it to start! Oh, and I'd like to remind you that my predictions are that Canada will win gold… while I see the United States finishing in 5th place in the tournament.

Overtime

– Canada suffers a crushing defeat (5-0) against the United States.

– Sick.

– That's crazy.
