It's pretty special to talk about the NHL and Donald Trump in the same sentence.

With certain economic conflicts between Canada and the United States, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has turned to China to negotiate an economic trade agreement on a few products. This does not please the US president at all, who justified his opinion with hockey.

According to Trump's recent comments, Canada will regret this agreement with China because China will “eat Canada” and it will start with the disappearance of the Stanley Cup and hockey in the country.

Donald Trump imagines that an agreement between Canada and China would put an end to one of Canada's greatest cultural icons.

That's a good one.

My gut tells me that if China ever invaded Canada, eliminating something that brings in so much revenue wouldn't be their first idea.

This isn't the first time Trump has gotten involved in the world of hockey, having recently teamed up with Wayne Gretzky, Matthew Tkachuk, and Gary Bettman for his sports advisory board.

And that's not to mention his idea for a game between the NHL and the KHL, which he explained during a meeting with Vladimir Putin.

But this is the first time hockey has been used in his messages against Canada.

This whole story could further fuel the rivalry between Canada and the United States in the Olympic hockey tournament.

The two teams are not in the same group, but we can expect them to cross swords a little later in the competition.
