Nazem Kadri has certainly been the subject of much discussion throughout the NHL for several months.

He is a veteran who can bring experience and a good offensive touch despite being 35 years old, while also being defensively responsible and playing with intensity.

Even though his offensive production has declined, he is still maintaining a pace of 57 points this season (39 points in 56 games) and can easily spend 18-19 minutes per game on the ice.

However, there is one big problem with Kadri: his contract. After this season, he will have three more years left on his contract, earning him $7 million per season.

If he were 30-32 years old, that wouldn't be a problem, but few contending teams will want to tie themselves down to a 35-year-old player for three more full seasons.

However, according to Elliotte Friedman in his latest Written 32 Thoughts, the decline in interest in Kadri is linked to two players.

According to the renowned Sportsnet insider, the availability of Vincent Trocheck and Robert Thomas would explain this situation.

In his article, Friedman also mentioned that when you add interest in Ryan O'Reilly to the mix, it doesn't make it any easier for the Flames to find a taker for Kadri.

However, despite Kadri's contract, the Flames are reportedly flexible in finding a trade partner.

Friedman specified in his article that the Flames are open to both a “hockey trade” and a transaction involving prospects and/or draft picks.

The Flames will therefore have no choice but to adapt to the market and offer teams looking for a top-6 center a reason to favor Kadri.

However, it should be noted that Kadri has a modified no-trade clause, which can include up to 13 teams to which he does not wish to be traded.

I can't wait to see where Kadri ends up and what the return will be for the 35-year-old center.

Overtime

Slaf is quite the comedian.

– Clearly (and unfortunately), Canada doesn't have goalies of Carey Price's caliber. Let's hope that the chosen goalies can at least do the job and take advantage of Canada's offensive power.

– Interesting.

– It's beautiful to see.

– The picture of the American trios is slowly but surely coming into focus.
