The Calgary Flames are in clearance mode. At the Olympic break, they are ranked 29th in the NHL.
They've already traded Ramsus Andersson to the Golden Knights…
And their fire sale could continue after the Olympic break. Guys like Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman could be on their way out, but the club is also getting calls for MacKenzie Weegar.
Frank Seravalli: The Flames have been receiving a pretty steady flow of calls on defenseman Mackenzie Weegar; not a sure bet that he's moved – Frankly Hockey (1/30)

With Jonathan Huberdeau out long term, Calgary has every interest in continuing to sell and lose for the first overall pick. A year ago to the day, I would have written, “…lose for Gavin McKenna,” but that's far from certain now.
We know that the Habs may be very interested in players from the Alberta club. There has been some buzz about Blake Coleman, but Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet) reiterated that he doesn't see the forward landing in Montreal.
Elliotte Friedman: Re Canadiens: My theory is they like Ryan O'Reilly. But we don't know if he will go anywhere. There's been a lot of Blake Coleman talk, but I don't believe that's feasible – Sportsnet (2/6)

Kadri, on the other hand, is a possibility.
But according to Frank Seravalli, who was a guest on the Flames Talk podcast, even though Montreal likes the player, the contract isn't appealing. He says Montreal would like Kadri to have a one- or two-year contract instead of a three-year deal.
Keep in mind that the center makes $7 million per season, which is a lot for a 35-year-old. There is obviously the possibility that Craig Conroy could keep part of his salary, but that would cost Kent Hughes more, and he has made it clear that he will not sacrifice the future for a player who is not part of the team's long-term plans.
In addition to Kadri, Vincent Trocheck and Elias Pettersson are also centers on weak teams who are attracting attention. One thing is certain: Calgary remains patient.
Among the teams interested in the center market, the reporter also mentioned the Kings, who traded for Artemi Panarin in the meantime, the Avalanche, the Wild, and the Stars.
Montreal is a much more logical destination than the top three teams in the Central Division, in any case.
