Isaac Paredes: Talks intensify

The Boston Red Sox are desperately looking to complete a trade to fill the void left by Alex Bregman's departure to the Chicago Cubs. And it appears the Red Sox have set their sights on Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes.

And a deal could be done sooner rather than later, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, with talks intensifying recently.

I can tell you that in conversations over the last 48 to 72 hours, as discussions have intensified, there seems to be a pretty straightforward motivation, and it seems that things are now gaining momentum.

However, the Sox are not alone in the derby, with the Pittsburgh Pirates also in the mix, as well as at least three other Major League Baseball teams. A three-team trade is not out of the question.

There are two that I would be willing to share, but I want to emphasize that just because I'm mentioning these two doesn't mean it's going to happen with these two teams. There are other teams interested. They already made a three-team deal this winter. Maybe another team will come in and help one of these five teams that have shown legitimate and aggressive interest in Paredes.

Paredes is coming off a solid season in which he posted a .254 batting average in 102 games with 20 home runs, 53 RBIs, an 11.7% walk rate, and a 17.4% strikeout rate.

The 26-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the 2027 season, which means Houston's asking price will remain high.

It appears that Paredes is the only player the Astros are looking to trade. Carlos Correa is expected to spend most of the season at third base, while Christian Walker is expected to play fairly regularly at first base.
