The Canadiens are having a good season so far, having played a total of 57 games.
They have a record of 32 wins, 17 losses (in regulation), and eight overtime losses.
At the very least, this is a significant improvement when compared to the club's performance last season. After 57 games in 2024-25, the habs had a record of 26-26-5…
This morning, I had some fun asking ChatGPT what it thought of the Canadiens' season. And the answer surprised me in a way.
According to artificial intelligence, the Habs' campaign is encouraging—which is normal, in fact. Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield's performances are “pleasant”… but ChatGPT hits the nail on the head when it says this:
However, the defense and control of the game still need to improve for the habs to be a real threat in the playoffs. – ChatGPT
This surprised me because it's true. The habs have certain weaknesses in their defensive play, and we know that there are two main “problems” in this area.

The first “problem” is the inconsistent performance of the goalies since the start of the season.
That seems to have settled down lately… and the arrival of Marco Marciano as goalie coach seems to have helped as well. Jakub Dobes and Samuel Montembeault were good in the final stretch before the Olympic break, and they need to continue on that path to help the habs even more.
That said, the second aspect that needs to be corrected is the sixth defenseman position.
Because we can all agree on one thing: for the past few weeks, Arber Xhekaj hasn't had much playing time because Martin St-Louis prefers to roll with five defensemen. And Jayden Struble is simply not playing anymore…
The Canadiens need to find help on the blue line to stabilize their defense. They need to find a guy who can fill the sixth defenseman role and also play an important role on the ice.
This is a necessity—especially given Kaiden Guhle's fragility.
Come on, Kent! It's your turn…
