It's been more than four years since Marc Bergevin was fired as GM of the Canadiens. He held the position for nearly 10 years, leading the club to the Stanley Cup Final in his last full year in town.

In short, he was one of the most important people in the recent history of the habs.

That said, we know that since his dismissal, Bergevin has not given any interviews to the Montreal media. We've seen him speak in the media here and there (notably forThe Athletic), but he has never given an interview to a local media outlet since losing his job.

And last night, on98.5 Sports, this topic came up again during Tony Marinaro's broadcast. But what's most interesting is what Mario Langlois revealed around the 50-minute mark of the segment:

Marc Bergevin promised someone he worked with that he would never give another interview in Montreal. – Mario Langlois

We know that recently, when the habs were in Buffalo (where Bergevin has a new job as assistant GM), the Montreal media tried to talk to him, but the Sabres refused, saying that Bergevin was too busy settling into his new role to talk to the media. But in fact, he did talk to the Buffalo media… the next day.

Langlois and Marinaro mentioned that Bergevin, at the time, was very accessible to the media and that all that changed overnight. And that's when the discussion turned to the current administration.

In Marinaro's view, the habs executives “have their favorites” in the media, which means they are more willing to give interviews to certain people than others.I'll let you make up your own mind on that one.

But in fact, it is true that it is unusual, as Langlois explains, that Kent Hughes (or another member of management) has not given him an interview in nearly three years. As we know , 98.5 FM broadcasts Canadiens games… and we can't get the GM to do an interview once in a while.

Clearly, the subject of media management by general managers in Montreal continues to be a talking point. But what we understand is that in Bergevin's case, we shouldn't expect to see him talking to a member of the Montreal media again anytime soon.
