On Thursday evening, the World Baseball Classic rosters were officially announced.
For Canada, eight Québécois will be part of the adventure in uniform. Six of them will be playing, which is six more than the Olympic hockey team.
Abraham Toro, Otto Lopez, and Édouard Julien (who will be there despite his trade to Colorado) are the position players from here. As in 2023, the three guys could be the starters in the infield.
On the mound, veteran Phillippe Aumont will come out of retirement once again to pitch for his country. Prospects Eric Cerantola and Antoine Jean will also be part of the team.

As we can see, offensively speaking, the Canadiens will have a strong team. The Naylor brothers will round out the infield… and the outfield will feature three solid players: Tyler O'Neill, Denzel Clarke, and Miami Marlins prospect Owen Caissie.
Jameson Taillon, Cal Quantrill (son of Paul, the team's pitching coach), James Paxton, and Mike Soroka are all familiar names on the pitching staff.
Adam Macko, a Blue Jays prospect, is also on the roster.
It should be noted that two Québécois are back on the coaching staff, but in different roles than in 2023. Denis Boucher will be the bullpen coach and Russell Martin will be the first base coach.

The World Baseball Classic begins on March 5. Canada is in Group A (there are four groups of five clubs) and will play in Puerto Rico to start. Colombia, Cuba, Panama, and Puerto Rico are in the Canadiens' group.
The Americans, Japanese, and Dominicans are in three different groups.

- Mike Trout is not on Team USA. He was the captain in 2023, but insurance issues have worked against him this year.

- Javier Baez is not in the World Baseball Classic: he has been suspended (at the international level only) for using marijuana.
Confirmed with his agent, Javier Baez has been suspended from participating with Team Puerto Rico in the WBC because of marijuana use. Marijuana is not a banned substance by MLB, so this will not impact his status entering camp next week.
