Last night was a rare Tuesday when the habs weren't in action.

There were seven games on the schedule.

Here are the results and highlights:

1. Bo Horvat crashes into a bird during the game

No, I didn't make a mistake in my headline: Bo Horvat, captain of the Islanders, did indeed crash into a bird, the animal, during an indoor hockey game.

I don't know how he got in, but the bird had good tickets.

He had a front-row seat to watch the Islanders win in overtime.

It was Horvat who scored the winning goal in a 5-4 victory.

Let's just say that New York might start inviting birds into the arena more often…

Matthew Schaefer continued to play well.

He scored another goal, his 16th of the season.

He's two goals away from the record for an 18-year-old defenseman.

What talent!

2. The Sabres are ahead of the habs in the standings despite the loss

When Atlantic Division teams don't win, they lose in overtime.

Yesterday, the Sabres, who are on fire, lost a heartbreaking overtime game. That point allowed them to move ahead of the habs in the Eastern Conference standings.

At the end of the game, Buffalo was leading 3-2.

But Darren Raddysh sent everyone into overtime.

And Jake Guentzel sealed the outcome of the game in overtime for the second consecutive game.

The visitors had taken the lead with just over five minutes left in the game.

There will be no easy games in the Atlantic Division.

3. Nine wins in 10 games since the coaching change in Columbus

The arrival of Rick Bowness has really done the Blue Jackets good.

Yesterday, they won 3-0 against the Devils, giving Bowness a 9-1-0 record in his first 10 games at the helm of the team.

The big hero of the game was Elvis Merzlikins, who stopped all 24 shots he faced.

It was his 12th career shutout.

Mathieu Olivier took care of the offense.

He only needed one shot to score two goals. For his second goal, he didn't even put the puck in the net.

The Jackets are starting to climb back up the Eastern Conference standings…

Watch out for them.

4. Three consecutive wins before the break for the Leafs

Things have been going better for the Leafs lately.

Yesterday, thanks to a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers, they won their third straight game before the Olympic break.

The officials were once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. After Kasperi Kapanen scored against his former team to tie the game, John Tavares, on a questionable powerplay, put the Leafs back in front.

It was the game-winning goal.

Later, Matias Maccelli doubled his team's lead.

Anthony Stolarz took care of preserving the lead.

5. A 30th win for the Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks are having a remarkable season. Like the Habs, they are a young team that is not yet a finished product, but they just keep winning.

Yesterday, they won 4-2 against Seattle to reach the 30-win mark this season.

Anaheim is currently third in the Pacific Division.

Jacob Trouba scored his team's second goal with a slap shot worthy of the major leagues.

Wow.

Late in the second period, Troy Terry was hit hard, and let's just say Anaheim didn't like it.

Philipp Grubauer didn't help his team's cause.

Bad play on his part behind the net.
