Robert Thomas' name has been circulating in rumors for several weeks.
It's been heating up lately because the NHL trade deadline is approaching. It's tomorrow at 3 p.m., remember.
That said, if the Blues want to trade him, Doug Armstrong may have to rethink what he wants in return for his forward. Because, as things stand…
According to Nick Kypreos (Sportsnet), the Blues are looking for a return that resembles the equivalent of three top-15 picks for Robert Thomas' services. That's huge… and the insider wonders if there's a club out there willing to make an offer like that.
Robert Thomas is a first-line center and excels on all 200 feet of the ice, but… is he worth that much?
That's the question I'm asking myself right now.
Nick Kypreos: Re Robert Thomas: The price is astronomical, in the vicinity of something equivalent to three top-15 first-round picks. [Armstrong's] looking for cache in prospects and picks. I don't know what team would do that – Sportsnet (2/2)

For the Canadiens, it would cost (something like) Alexander Zharovsky, Michael Hage, and another first-round draft pick.
I don't know how far I'd be willing to go with that.
I love Robert Thomas because we're talking about a guy who could really help the Canadiens right away, but to sacrifice my future to make a trade like that… I don't know.
I wonder if the Blues will get what they want.
In fact… I wonder if the price will drop if Doug Armstrong can't find what he's looking for. The Blues' GM has reasons to be aggressive in his demands, but at the end of the day, he shouldn't overdo it either.

– Good point.
Anthony Cirelli's withdrawal opens the door to Team Canada's locker room for Sam Bennett. It will also undoubtedly allow Nick Suzuki to take on an even more important role, as he becomes a logical candidate to fill the role that Jon Cooper was going to give to Cirelli. #habs
