No one expected this during the Stadium Series. Not a battle between two forwards, or even between defensemen… but between two goalies.
The Tampa Bay Lightning faced the Boston Bruins in an outdoor game at Raymond James Stadium.
The Bruins' dominance in the first half of the game had Jon Cooper's team on edge. And little by little, the game became more and more physical.
Things escalated after Brandon Hagel hit Jeremy Swayman with his stick just as Swayman had gained control of the puck. Visibly furious, the Bruins goalie didn't hesitate for a second: he threw himself at the Lightning forward to send him a clear message.
That's when the outdoor night took a different turn.
Seeing the melee forming, Andrei Vasilevskiy decided to cross the entire rink. The two goalies dropped their gloves to the cheers of the crowd, offering a rare scene, made even more spectacular in the context of an outdoor game.

It was a furious fight, and let's face it, the Russian goalie came out on top.
After the fight, the Lightning had the wind in their sails and scored two goals in just 23 seconds.

Let's just say that the league couldn't have asked for a better show for an outdoor game like this one.
Overtime
– A record for the Bruins.
The @NHLBruins skate into the first intermission with a two-goal lead and have done so thanks to 20 shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of the #StadiumSeries.

– Nice statement from the Habs captain.
Habs captain Nick Suzuki yesterday on his confidence going into the Olympics:
“I definitely want to feel good about my game going over there. Not sure what type of role I'm gonna have, doesn't really matter, but I just want to feel good and show that I can be a player that can… pic.twitter.com/H8x3PTak6Z

– At 5-on-5, Alex Ovechkin has never started a shift in the defensive zone this season.
I thought this was a bug in our new zone start data, but after reviewing, I can confirm it's not: At 5v5, Alex Ovechkin has literally started 0 shifts in the defensive zone this season. pic.twitter.com/UigpeLHjkT
