The Canadiens are off today.
The team won't be practicing since they've announced a travel day. But there was still some action in Brossard: Alex Newhook, who hasn't played since November 13, jumped on the ice to work on his return to the game.
And there was another guy on the ice playing goalie. You'll probably recognize him… hehe:
David Savard played goalie this morning in Brossard.
He faced shots from Alex Newhook.
P.S. Forget Marc-André Fleury. Savard is the one we need.

As we can see in the photo above, David Savard put on his pads to block shots from Newhook. I dare to believe that there were no other goalies available this morning and that Savard volunteered to help the Canadiens—in any case, the goal wasn't to have Carey Price in front of the net.
They just needed someone to challenge Newhook a little.
It's pretty cool, really! And this isn't the first time we've seen Savard play goalie: he's had fun wearing Samuel Montembeault's equipment in recent years in Montreal.
It's worth noting that Newhook looked more comfortable on the ice this morning. That's great news for him… but also for the Canadiens.
When will he be back in the game?
Alex Newhook is showing clear signs of progress. His practice was more convincing than last Friday's.
The forward spent over an hour on the ice today. His skating was more confident, his sharp turns more intense, and his breaks… pic.twitter.com/R7VHTViagB

Of course, David Savard is no longer playing.
The former Canadiens defenseman decided to hang up his skates at the end of last season to (among other things) spend more time with his family and because his body was starting to wear out.
That's what happens when you spend all your time on the ice blocking shots and playing a physical style, as was the case with the Québécois.
Seriously, seeing Savard involved in the team's activities—even if he had to play goalie for a moment during practice—is interesting.
We know that the organization respects him a lot and we know that the door is open for him to get a position at some point. The defenseman has already talked to Kent Hughes about it, and we know that the idea is on the table, eventhough he's already committed to another project.
Overtime
Right now, we miss the David Savard of recent years in Montreal.
Arber Xhekaj and Jayden Struble are unable to be consistent on the blue line, which means that Martin St-Louis often has to juggle things around to find a solution for the sixth defenseman position.
Damn, David Savard would be useful in the lineup right now…
