Barry Trotz has always been recognized as a great coach. He coached in Nashville for a long time, he was successful in Long Island, and he figured out how to lead Alexander Ovechkin's Capitals to the promised land.

Then, three years ago, he replaced David Poile as GM of the Preds.

Since then, things haven't exactly gone smoothly. The Nashville club hasn't been performing up to expectations for the past few seasons, and questions were increasingly being asked about whether Trotz was the right man for the job.

But now we have our answer: the Preds' GM, the second in franchise history, is leaving his position.

One might wonder whether this is a disguised dismissal or not, but it doesn't matter: when the club has its new man, Trotz will hand over his position.That's whatElliotte Friedman reported this morning.

Will Nashville call someone like Marc Bergevin? That's a question worth asking.

Will the Preds find a replacement before the trade deadline? It's likely that this will happen within the next month, yes.

Regardless of who takes the job, one big question will be at the heart of the matter: will he put the Preds into a rebuilding process? A renovation?

If so, that could be a game changer on the market.

We must also ask ourselves whether Andrew Brunette, who has been in the position since 2023 and has always had the confidence of his GM, will keep his job despite the change above him.

Oh, one last thing: will Trotz return to the bench as a coach sometime in 2026?
