“I was never going to make everyone happy”: Bill Guerin feels the heat

Bill Guerin is a name that has been heard a lot around the National Hockey League in recent weeks, and it's not because of his trade bringing Quinn Hughes to Minnesota.

The general manager of the Minnesota Wild is also the GM of the U.S. team for the Milan Olympics, which will take place this month.

Well, in that role, Bill Guerin has been heavily criticized (including by Nick Suzuki) in recent weeks for his selection decisions.

Guerin decided not to select several players who, in the eyes of many analysts and fans, truly deserved to be part of the US team.

And to that end, we can see that Guerin is feeling the heat, especially when we listen to him speak in interviews, such as last night on Sportsnet.

The U.S. GM said he knew full well that he was never going to make everyone happy with his decisions.

Guerin didn't want to go into detail about his decisions, but it's clear that he feels the pressure on his shoulders.

He must be hoping very hard that his American team performs well at the Olympics, because if it doesn't, much of the blame will fall on him.

Guerin made several controversial decisions, including not selecting Cole Caufield, Jason Robertson, Lane Hutson, Alex DeBrincat, and Adam Fox.

These are players who clearly deserved their place on the team more than guys like J.T. Miller, Vincent Trocheck, Noah Hanifin, and Jackson Lacombe.

In short, many of us think Guerin will regret several of his decisions, and we'll find out for sure in the coming weeks.

At least the good news is that with his U.S. selection, Guerin seems to have stung Cole Caufield, who has been on fire since the U.S. team announcement.

This is positive for the Canadiens, as they benefit from a Caufield who wants to prove he deserved his spot, and on top of that, they will have a rested Caufield in March.

Overtime

– Phew.

– To be continued.

– Oh, really.
