The Montreal Canadiens managed to win an extremely important game last night against the Buffalo Sabres, winning 4-2 in what is considered a four-point game.

The Habs earned two crucial points last night away in Buffalo, even though it felt like the game was being played at the Bell Centre.

The number of Habs fans in the arena was truly impressive, which was clearly not appreciated by Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin, who hopes to see fewer red jerseys in the future.

In short, the habs ended up with a big win in regulation (!!!), despite trailing by a goal in the second intermission.

Well, this turnaround is largely thanks to Cole Caufield, who scored two goals in quick succession in the third period.

With his two goals, Caufield, who is on fire right now with 11 goals in his last eight games, now has 32 goals this season.

That's good for third place in the entire NHL, behind only hockey prodigies Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid.

And for Caufield, 32 goals in 55 games puts him on pace for about 48 goals, which puts him very close to the famous 50-goal plateau.

The habs' #13 is therefore very close to a pace of 50 goals in 82 games, and if he continues his current momentum, he could very well reach it.

It would be incredible to see Caufield score 50 goals, as he would become the first player since Stéphane Richer in 1989-1990 to reach that milestone.

For comparison, after 55 games, Richer also had 32 goals, and he then scored 19 goals in 20 games to finish the season.

In short, Caufield could very well reach the 50-goal mark if he continues his current pace.

Otherwise, next season, with two more games on the schedule, for a total of 84 games, such a pace would allow #13 to reach the prestigious 50-goal mark.

Bill Guerin and the United States must regret their decision not to select Caufield for the Olympics, even though Guerin claims it would have been impossible to make everyone happy.

Finally, it's seriously awesome that the Montreal Canadiens now have a natural scorer who ranks so high in the scoring charts, and that in general, the habs are an offensive team that scores a lot of goals.

Martin St. Louis's team ranks third in the NHL in goals scored this season with 189, behind only the Colorado Avalanche (207) and the Edmonton Oilers (193).

In addition, Nick Suzuki is in the top 10 in the NHL scoring race with 64 points in 55 games.

The Habs are now an offensive powerhouse in the NHL, which is very exciting for the future.
