On Thursday evening, we saw the Nordiques jersey on the ice at the Bell Centre. The Avalanche have been wearing it occasionally since the start of the season, and they took advantage of their visit to Montreal to wear it in Quebec.

So we were treated to a game between the habs and the Nordiques… with both clubs wearing colored jerseys.

And it made for some magnificent images.

Inevitably, the subject of a possible return of the Nordiques was the talk of the town on the heels of that game. And last night, on Tony Marinaro'sSick Podcast, Pierre LeBrun was asked about the chances of seeing the Nordiques again one day.

His response? There is no prospect that it will happen.

LeBrun explains that the chances of seeing them again have beendestroyed by the fact that other small-market Canadian teams, such as the Jets and the Senators, have struggled in recent years. Whether it's the low ticket sales in Winnipeg or the arena situation in Ottawa, neither of these situations has helped Quebec City's chances.

According to LeBrun, there was a real chance of it happening when Vegas got its team… but things have changed since then.

We know that, in reality, this could eventually change over time. But what we understand is that, barring a major turnaround, the Nordiques have no real chance of returning as things stand.

It's unfortunate for the people of Quebec City, of course, especially since the cases of Winnipeg and Ottawa are completely out of their control. But at least it's clear.
