Noah Dobson is just one blocked shot away from leading all NHL players

When the Canadiens acquired Noah Dobson last June, the same comment came up often.

“He's good offensively, but defensively…”

You know what? What was being said in June about Dobson's defensive play is not true. Since the start of the season, we've seen that Dobson is (more than) capable of defending, and he's doing his job well.

It's simple: among all the players in the National Hockey League, Colton Parayko is the only one with more blocked shots than Dobson so far this season.

And… Parayko has only one more than Dobson. The Habs defenseman is one blocked shot away from leading the National Hockey League in that category, which is no small feat:

Meanwhile, on Long Island, Emil Heineman is struggling.

The former Canadiens player scored last night… but he has only eight points in his last 32 games. He has slowed down considerably after a hot start to the season with the Islanders, even though he is still playing on his team's top line.

Oh, and let's not forget that Dobson is playing 24 minutes per game with the Canadiens while the Swede is struggling…

It may be too early to say outright that the Canadiens won the trade.

After all, we don't know what will become of Kashawn Aitcheson and Viktor Eklund, the two guys who were selected with the #16 and #17 picks in the last draft (the ones the Canadiens held before making the trade for Dobson).

But we can still say that, so far, the habs seem to be doing well. They acquired a high-quality defenseman, which they needed after losing David Savard, who decided to hang up his skates.

At least for now… Kent Hughes seems to have made a (very) good move.

Overtime

– I forgot he was still playing.

– Two big games in Laval this weekend for the Rocket.

– Yes.
