Right now, Jakub Dobes is the trusted goalie in Montreal. The Czech, who will turn 25 in a few months, doesn't have the most impressive stats (2.96 goals-against average and .890 save percentage), but he finds a way to win games.
And in the end, it's the results that count.
Of the habs' 30 wins this season, Dobes has earned theW in 17 of them. And in 25 games, he has helped his team earn at least one point in the standings in 20 of them.

All of this means that, at the moment, Dobes is seen as the #1 in town. Samuel Montembeault has started to struggle again recently (will Marco Marciano's return help him?), and Jacob Fowler is back in Laval.
But in reality, what could be complicated for Dobes is keeping that spot. Because when you look at his stats this season based on the number of days of rest before his start, you see that thevast majority of the time, he got at least three days of rest before a start.
And that's not common for a #1 goalie.

We can see that, in general, it's a little more difficult for Dobes when he has less rest. His numbers are worse, and he wins less often. If he has less than three days of rest, his record is 6-4-1, compared to his (impressive) record of 11-1-2 with at least three days of rest.
Of course, it's possible that all of this will improve if Dobes ends up stringing together some starts and finds his rhythm. We don't know exactly what to expect from Dobes as the #1 goalie in the NHL because, in reality, he's never really been one.
But as long as he keeps winning, it's hard to deny that he's the #1 in town. And that's why it would make sense to see him in net tomorrow against the Sabres in avery important game for the standings.
Is Dobes the #1 in Montreal?
