Unbelievable but true, the Toronto Maple Leafs are ten points away from a playoff spot with about thirty games left to play. A slump was expected with the loss of Mitch Marner last summer, but what we're seeing is a full-blown collapse in the Queen City.

Captain Austin Matthews is avoiding the media, William Nylander is flipping off the camera, and Matthew Knies isn't looking at the standings. In short, it's a real circus.

Will the Leafs be sellers at the trade deadline? According to Darren Dreger, it's very possible.

The TSN insider mentioned that, despite the fact that senior management hasn't thrown in the towel, general manager Brad Treliving has to consider this possibility.

The Leafs' general manager is taking the Olympic break and the following week to think about his team's future.

“We're coming back and we have a few games to play before the March 6 deadline. So we're still evaluating the short term. We're evaluating the long term,” said Brad Treliving.

I never thought the Leafs would be in this position. Things are going badly, it's true, but this team still has a lot of talent.

All it would take is a good run to get back in the playoff race in the East, but the team is playing so poorly that the GM has no choice.

I'll go even further. If the Maple Leafs are in sell mode in a few weeks, they'll also have to dismantle the core for good this summer. Nylander would be a good candidate to be traded to another team for a return that would be more than interesting.
