The Canadiens had the night off last night.
And there were only three games played across the National Hockey League.
What caught our attention? Let's take a look:
Five was the magic number for home teams tonight as the @NYIslanders, @BlueJacketsNHL, and @Senators finished the night with wins.#NHLStats: https://t.co/v9b4tT690Y pic.twitter.com/fEC6WXJEVN

1: Avalanche lose before facing the habs
The Colorado Avalanche were in Ottawa last night to face the Sens.
Reminder: Tonight, the Western club will be visiting the Bell Centre and will proudly wear their old Nordiques jerseys. It should be a good show.
But yesterday didn't go well for Colorado.
Nick Cousins opened the scoring with a magnificent play by Artem Zub:

Early in the second period, with the score 2-1 in favor of the Sens, Claude Guroux stepped up. The veteran scored his 10th goal of the season, beating the Avalanche goalie with a perfect shot:

Valeri Nichushkin scored late in the third, but it was too little, too late.
The Sens scored two empty-net goals to win the game 5-2. A big win for the Sens… and it will be interesting to see if the habs can take advantage of it tonight, as the Avalanche play their second game in as many nights.
2: Three goals for Travis Konecny
Last night, the (very) surprising Flyers were in Columbus. But…
But things didn't really go as planned. The Jackets won the game 5-3, and Charlie Coyle, who was playing his 1,000th career NHL game, stood out by opening the scoring.
But what stands out most is Travis Konecny's performance in his team's loss. He scored three goals:

Oh… and we have to talk about this save by Dan Vladar, because it's truly a fantastic sequence.
He made one of the saves of the year in the NHL:

3: Ondrej Palat wastes no time
Earlier this week, the New York Islanders acquired Ondrej Palat.
And guess what?
He scored his new team's first goal last night against the Rangers. That's a great way to make new friends:

The Islanders won 5-2 against the Rangers, and we really felt that it was Mathew Barzal's goal early in the second period that hurt the Blue Shirts.
The Rangers weren't the same after that, as if they had given up:

It's worth noting that Palat recorded an assist late in the game on Emil Heineman's 15th goal of the season.
One goal and one assist for Palat's debut with the Isles.
