The Olympic break is coming up, but so is the trade deadline. Rumors are growing louder and louder, and for the first time in a very long time, the habs are in a position to be buyers.

From what we understand from Marco D'Amico, the habs are not looking to acquire a rental player unless there is a contract extension attached.

He discussed this on his podcast, the Starr and D'Amico Show.

The most interesting point concerns the team's goalies. D'Amico reports that the habs believe the solution lies within the organization.

He added that the team has a lot of confidence in Jacob Fowler. Basically, it would be surprising if the Canadiens traded for a goalie like Jesper Wallsteadt of the Wild or a rental goalie.

This is really in line with yesterday's decision to fire Éric Raymond. First and foremost, the team is confident that Marco Marciano can get the habs' goalies Jakub Dobes and Samuel Montembeault back on track. Both are capable of playing much better and could benefit from a new voice.

However, there is a hidden card in Laval in Fowler. The organization trusts him, and that's a good thing. The habs have an excellent opportunity to develop a proper goalie. It will take some time, but I see in Fowler the skills of an excellent #1 goalie. His calmness and good technique will take him far. We just have to be patient.
