When the Montreal Canadiens acquired Zachary Bolduc in exchange for Logan Mailloux, all the fans cried foul. Especially with the excellent start to the season Bolduc had.
But even though Mailloux isn't doing well with the St. Louis Blues, Bolduc is having a lot of trouble finding the back of the net these days.
It's been over a month since the Trois-Rivières native lit the lamp, even though he's had a few good chances.
However, that doesn't mean he's useless. In fact, Bolduc has found his niche in Martin St-Louis' lineup: he's using his size much more to deliver checks.
Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports recentlywrote an article about this.
Zachary Bolduc may not be filling the net, but he seems to have found his identity in Martin St-Louis' lineup.
He's using his shoulders more and more. Almost three times per game lately. https://t.co/EraoITFdmc

Indeed, as Cloutier mentions in the tweet above, #76 has averaged nearly three hits per game in the last 20 games.
That's good news, because that's exactly what the Habs need: a player who can impose himself physically.
His hits open up opportunities for his teammates, and he still has his formidable shot that creates scoring chances. Much like he did on Nick Suzuki's goal against the Buffalo Sabres recently:

Bolduc is definitely useful in his own way with his shoulder checks and powerful shot. He just needs to find the back of the net more often with that shot, and it will come, because the commitment is there.

– What do you choose?
How many goals do you think Cole Caufield will finish the season with, over or under 44.5

– Not crazy.
The Canadiens need to find someone like Devon Toews to pair with number 48. https://t.co/rYEdQ5GzdS

– Macklin Celebrini is quite the comedian.
Macklin Celebrini doesn't want his Team Canada teammate to try too hard tonight

– His streak of 161 consecutive games has come to an end.
This will be the first game Casey Cizikas misses this season for #Isles
Per @ehornick
Casey Cizikas is the Islanders' ironman, having played 161 consecutive games. Anders Lee (135) is the only other Isle to have also played every game since the start of last season.— Andrew Gross (@AGrossNewsday) January 29, 2026
